Everybody has their own unique,tried and tested method for lighting that perfect fire. Maintaining and controlling that fire is also paramount. Softwoods and hardwoods compliment each other when burned together because they have different rates of burning. Using these different burn rates is a great way to reach maximum heat output quickly and maintain a dynamic fire if needed. Softwood logs have a faster burn rate but lower heat output which gives an energetic fire but it can burn too quickly,which results in continuously having to feed the stove.Hardwood logs have a slower burn rate and higher heat output but lacks the same ferocity as softwood meaning that in some cases such as starting a fire or if the chimney has a bad draw, the fire can seem sluggish. Together, they are the ideal mix to create the perfect fire.
